If other fans online have convinced you to see the gentle, optimistic, empathetic, fun loving, whimsical, forgiving, wise beyond his years genocide survivor, as a sexist, racist, xenophobic, abusive, pro-colonization, sexual assault perpetrator who doesn’t care about anyone else and doesn’t understand trauma…

You have been LIED TO.

Please just think for a moment!

ATLA was banned in China from the beginning for a reason. Because they didn’t want anyone empathizing with a character based on Tibetan monks. Why? Because they are an actual oppressed and persecuted minority IRL. Their religious leader lives in exile. Their second most important spiritual figure is the youngest political prisoner ever taken (and to this day no one knows if he’s alive or dead!). China has actual prison and labor camps. Tibetan people get sent there for “re-education”.

Can you please think about what these “fans” are saying when they stomp all over this allegory in TLA and try to frame Aang as the oppressor?

Do you really think it’s appropriate or these people who call Aang all these horrible (and inaccurate) things are being in anyway fair when they call Aang “white coded”???

Even without the real world context, Aang is explicitly the only survivor of a genocide. The last of his people. He has lost more than anyone else in the entire franchise. There’s a reason he clings so hard to Appa.

Do you think it’s fair to compare a 12 year old misreading signals and trying to kiss a girl who already consensually kissed him before, and immediately backing off and giving her space when she says no, to rape?

Tweens and teens miscommunicating and trying to comfort each other with kisses, only to realize that’s not what their friend needed and immediately backing off is the same as having your body violently violated against your will? The same as having your “no” ignored?

How do you think this makes survivors feel? To see people use their experiences as a shield and cudgel for ship discourse? It certainly upsets me as someone who experienced intimate partner violence, let me tell you! And I know I’m not the only one.

And how is it in anyway feminist or pro-Katara to ignore her own agency and deep love she shows for Aang? Yes, that includes her own crush on him! It IS reciprocated!

Lastly, you don’t need to demonize Aang to ship whatever you want to ship. Please understand that the majority of these takes are bad faith and born out of bitterness and insecurity over a friggin FANON SHIP.

And none of it is necessary! You can ship whatever you want! You don’t need permission or excuses. You can just ship them! You can make your case for why you like another pairing better without misrepresenting what happened in the show and what these characters are like, let alone what they represent.

There’s already plenty to work with in the show as it is! Otherwise why bother?

I’m imploring fans taken in by persuasive and manipulative metas to please just think about it. Get off social media and rewatch the show for yourself thoughtfully.

this is a bit of a promo post to be honest, but it's for a good reason! There is this new project known as @atlasduo / ATLAS DUO, its a project that aims to recreate pro-endo apps and websites for anti-endos so you don't have to support pro-endo stuff! I think it's really cool and I'd recommend checking it out! Also the owner of the project is looking for some coders! Well, if kataang is "unseasoned chicken breasts", zutara is too. Just the same. Both pro and contra.

Kataang is boring because "hero gets the girl"? Zutarians just want another guy to be the "hero", who will save damsel in distress Katara (she may be powerful badass in their fics/metas, but still in need to be saved by Zuko). Check.

Zutara shares the same trauma? Katara and Aang are both genocide survivors, the last benders in their tribe/nation. Check.

Aang is flawed? Zuko is flawed too, with his outburst during the beach party in the finale and don't even make me start about the comic books. Check.

"Power couple"? Both. Check.

Firelady? Ambassador – I don't remember how actually they called Katara in LoK, but "the Firelady" in the fics does almost nothing despite all the "empowerment". Check.

Three kids with Aang? Multiple kids with Zuko (sometimes with the same names, yes, not only "Kya", I've seen "Bumi" too). Check.

Did hurt Katara with fire? Both. Check.

Sibling coded? Katara mocks Zuko just like she mocks her brother, so – siblings dynamic. Check.

Katara doing all the emotional labor? She supported Zuko in the theater, before a talk with Iroh, invited him in the group hugs, accepted his decision to fight Azula alone – Zuko only helped her in "The Southern Raiders" (and only in the process started doing it for Katara and not for himself) and poured tea twice. Katara did more, check.

Katara has to give up her culture? Ton of zk fanarts where she is wearing only or mostly red and tons of fics where she does not practice anything from Water Tribe culture and does not think about her tribe and family at all. Check.

So for me zutara is "unseasoned chicken breasts" as well. The same price even. Just on another shelf. Burying it under a mountain of hot pepper does not make it better, it makes it unedible and also can't hide that this chicken breast is expired. Long ago.

Actually, I prefer neither.

Ngl, kinda a major bummer that Marinette’s leading the Bugettes AU Red Ladybug poll, even by only a slim margin. It’s still the first day, and people are obviously free to pick who they want to see, but with the focus on color-coding and the personality and power focus changes made for Bugettes!Tikki, I definitely feel like Marinette is even LESS of a match for Ladybug here than in canon. I almost wonder if she and Rose should’ve only been added to Violet/Butterfly like you mentioned in the last anon’s spread, because I feel like people are just going with what they’re familiar with voting-wise instead of considering the Bugettes AU world or the kwami detail posts that you’re already linking to.

Oh same. Mindful, I am biased to shuffling things up. But from what I've learned doing polls for ML, this fandom largely likes to stick to canon. They don't really like to get experimental. And there are some that do work off the mindset that what they get in canon IS what they're meant to have, that they are, undoubtedly, the best for that Miraculous (which personally I can find to be debatable).

So Marinette has the Ladybug in canon, and Mouse is the first kwami swap to get a lot of focus in canon (aside from her with Cat), so those are the top two picks for Marinette Miraculous wise, never mind if they work for her growth wise or not. They're what happens, so they're what people focus on.

So Marinette leading in the poll for Ladybug isn't a surprise for me. It's a bummer, but not a surprise. If she didn't win Ladybug, I was definitely more intrigued by the other polls she was going to appear in: Dragonfly, Mantis (both working off the bit of blue she has, and Mantis especially has such a small number of choices for it), and Butterfly.

But her being there, I do stand by that pink coded characters should apply for both the Red and Violet poll. And while it's a very small detail in her whole design, she does have spots on her.

But if she does win Ladybug, it is what it is. It will work more off what we get in canon, with Tikki pressuring Marinette to do better, consider others more than herself, always win, always be the leader, ect.. Honestly, only big changes is Tikki being more romantic, which could both help Marinette's crush, as Tikki would have actual advise to share, but also make it worse as she's going to fixate on Marinette's crush on Adrien and help push the agenda cause this is what Marinette wants; and Tikki's not really going to be pro team. Tikki aims for success, and sometimes a team gets in the way of that so you MUST be the leader to make sure things work out as they should.

Which could be interesting as Marinette isn't opposed to working with others, but it also doesn't feel like it's a must. It could definitely feed into her agenda of her Atlas Complex and she must solve everything herself by herself.

And with this, I'll have to think on how to address this. The perk of the Bugettes is there is more than just one partner to work off of, so if Marinette does win and these issues will arise, there would be at least someone to bring this up and address it.

And potentially may have Marianne as the Guardian and mentor of the Bugettes, and potentially she was a prior Ladybug so she knows how Tikki can be.

So if Marinette does get Ladybug, yeah a bit of a bummer, but I do have ideas and options on how to address the issues and make them work. But the poll's not over yet so you never know.

next on our roster in the malefactor is the muscle of the group: atlas!

Real name: henry "hank" marcus

Alias: the unbreakable juggernaut: atlas

Quirk: stone golem

Stone golem is a mutant type quirk that makes the user hulking stony silicon lifeform. Atlas' quirk grants him the strength to lift 75 tons, and is durable enough to tank high grade explosions. He can also morph is stony body parts into weapons similar to diamondhead from ben 10. Atlas is unable to eat food and only eats raw silicates.

An orphaned immigrant from australia, hank was left to fend for himself in the streets of japan until he joined the underground fighting ring, where he faced off against numerous opponents, like tiger bunny, rapper, O'clock, muscular, etc. Hank quickly took to the stars as an underground brawler, donning the alias "atlas" now having a sense of purpise in life from fighting. That was until the underground ring was shut down by the authorities, leaving the unbreakable juggernsut to rot once more. With nowhere else to go, atlas decided to do the one thing he's good at: fighting. He's battled pro heroes and villains alike, thoguh he has a miral code of never involving innocents and never killing his opponents. He eventually sets hisnights to battle the elusive vigilante herpeton. Herpeton agrees to a fair fight, and uses his mobility and tactics to brjng down the stony goliath. The maestro later recruits atlas into the malefactor, under the promise of being able to have a good old fashioned session of fisticuffs with herpy again, whom atlas considers his "battle buddy".
